so I got an iPod Touch for Christmas...it's pretty sweet. To top it off...I'm blogging from it right now...

3.100 - The One with shortage of Wii's
WOW...Rock Band is amazing!! From opening the box, to setting up the drums, the Fender Stratocastor and the mic. A bunch of people came by last night to help me christen my copy of Rock Band. Time flew by...fun was had by all...here's my initial review...
band name: cāpo3
- the Strat...I like the size, the look, but it feels flimsy...getting the "Overdrive" to work seems like a chore...
- the higher frets for solos - I used them once of twice but I don't see much of an advantage of using them (if you can prove me wrong...I'm all ears)
- drumming is really fun...except I suck at it so far...(I'm a pianist, singer, and a guitarist by trade...could never drum correctly) The bass pedal is kinda cheap looking...you'd think that they could make better one that doesn't look like you can break it by just breathing on it.
- the singing is done well...if you know how to sing the sing you'll get a high score...even if you don't know the song...you can just keep the pitch and you'll do great. The mic itself is solid
- 4 players in the band was loads of fun...don't like how you can't switch instruments with your characters.
- the song selection was alright...playing the mystery sets or the challenge sets was getting a little repetitive. I think we played Say it Ain't So and In Bloom back to back about 5 times tonight. But...if we were a real band on tour...we'd be playing the same songs every show.
- custom characters - LOVE IT...lots to play with there
- haven't gone online yet...but soon...I hope it's pretty good
- solid game so far...lots of challenges and things to do
- better than Guitar Hero by far as a game. Still not to crazy about the Strat...
to me...it was worth the wait...can't wait to play it more...if you want to come by and play...just let me know...
Rock Band wasn't the only thing that's almost impossible to get this Christmas...reports have Nintendo losing over $1 Billion because they can't keep up the the demands for the Wii...$1 BILLION!!! I think I found the reason why...

3.99 - The One with Rock Band
I put in a pre-order for Rock Band for my XBox 360 in late November because I couldn't find Guitar Hero 3 anywhere. Little did I know that the distributors for this game would have so much trouble getting it out for Christmas. It was already delayed from the released date for Nov. 19th in the States. Anyways, I was keeping track of the stories that were floating around online and on message boards about this issue. Nothing really was concrete, there were a lot of rumors about the actual release date. FutureShop and Best Buy would be getting them before Christmas, but they weren't going to sell until after, EB Games was hoping to get it on the 20th, or the 24th, but only in limited supply.
So I went into EB Games where I pre-ordered and paid for the entire package hoping that would put me at the top of the list and I'd get my Rock Band when it came in. I called them yesterday, and they only got the stand alone game...not the Special Edition that came with the guitars, drums, and a mic. They told me to call the next day to find out if they would get any in...they assured me that they would be able to fulfill their pre-order list. I went to Wal Mart and they also only got the stand alone game and didn't think that they would even get the Special Edition in. So today I called EB Games and they told me that they were getting 14 units in and they checked if I was in the top 14. I was not...I was 9th from the bottom. They said that I would be getting mine after Christmas. I was not impressed.
On a hunch I called up Wal Mart and asked if they had the Special Edition...they told me they just got them in and they had 3 for the XBox 360 and 3 for the PS3. I got off my butt and rushed to Wal Mart. As I approached the electronics department I saw a guy carrying out an XBox 360 edtion of Rock Band...I prayed that there would be one left for me. Luckily there were 2 more left so I promptly paid for it. Now it's in the back of my SUV waiting for me to open the beast of a box that it comes in and rock out! I'm still kinda ticked at the distributors of the game...but now I'll have 2 copies of the Special Edition next week...I'm looking to sell one...so if you know someone that wants one for the XBox 360...let me know.

3.98 - The One with the snow bank
It snowed about 25cm over the weekend...yesterday I spent most of the day shoveling. Not that much fun...at least the snow wasn't heavy...but it just didn't stop coming down. Just when you thought it was letting up and going to stop...OH...more snow! I don't mind the snow...I just hate it when the snow plows in my town basically fortify your driveway when it goes by your house. I spent about a half hour this morning shoveling a 2 foot high, 5 foot deep and about 20 foot wide barrier that was on my driveway from the lovely snow plow. It didn't help that my neighbour has this big sign on his lawn that reads "Let it Snow!" Oh it snowed alright buddy...do you want mine?
Don't get me wrong...I'm grateful that we have plows...but when I was living in Saskatoon...where it snows a lot more and for more days...we never had this problem. The plows would never block your driveway. On my way to work I saw a bunch of old people out shoveling the ends of their driveways. It's just not right.
On a brighter note...the trailer for the The Dark Knight came out this weekend...check it out

3.97 - The One with "Something has found Us"
Not sure if you've heard of "Cloverfield"...but it's the new J.J. Abrams movie coming out in January. The teaser trailer came out with Transformers and didn't even say what movie it was...so there's been a lot of speculation and hype building around it. Check out this 5 minute preview...it's the latest thing to come out...no one sure what this movie is about yet...

3.96 - The One with the 'Ford'ified KITT
It's official...KITT is now a Shelby Mustang for the made for TV movie next year. It's a far cry from the Trans Am way back in the day. I think it looks pretty cool...but I'll miss the original Trans Am. Click here to see more pics

3.95 - The One with the DELAY
I've been looking for Guitar Hero III for my XBox 360 for the last few weeks...stupid me didn't pre-order it...and I've had no luck. So I gave up and pre-ordered Rock Band instead. Instead of just having the guitar to play in the game...you have a drum kit and a microphone to sing along. You can also plug in another guitar to play the bass part. I was pretty excited for it. Rock Band was released in the US in November and it is supposed to be released in Canada on December 20th. Now I read on Joystiq that it has been pushed back another week to the 28th. So much for my plans to play it over Christmas...I guess it'll be fun for New Years. Many people believe that it's because the packaging, instructions, etc. have to be in French...I would think that the game publishers would have figured that all out already...I'm not impressed...

3.93 - The One with the snow
Ahh snow...how I don't miss you. Although I do like it when you come for Christmas. Well it looks like the snow is going to stay for awhile...and it doesn't help when it decides to rain and freeze making my street an ice rink. At least the snow has put me in the Christmas mood...the tree went up on Saturday and last night I started to wrap some presents. Now if the rain would stop...

3.92 - The One with Canada's DMCA
I came across this on Boing Boing...if this law gets passed...I'm not sure that Canada would be such a great place to live anymore. I understand that there needs to be copyright laws for digital stuff...but this is ridiculous:
Canada's coming DMCA will be the worst copyright yet
The Canadian government is about to bring down Canada's version of the US Digital Millennium Copyright Act, and it promises to be the worst copyright law in the developed world. It will contain an "anti-circumvention" clause that prohibits breaking the locks off your music and movies in order to move them to new devices or watch them after the company that made them goes out of business -- and it will follow the US's disastrous lead with the DMCA in that there will be no exceptions to the ban on circumvention, not even for parody, fair dealing, time shifting, or other legal uses. This will be even worse than the last Canadian copyright proposal, the defeated Bill C-60.
But there's hope. The last two Ministers who tried to push through a US-style copyright bill in Canada lost their jobs, thanks in large part to Canada's coalition of artists, educators, archivists, and public-interest activists. Selling Canada's digital future out to a handful of US companies is a bad career move for Canadian politicians.
Gear up for a fight in the New Year. The American record labels, in particular, are said to be well organised and ready to push this through on a fast track (even though they've abandoned DRM in the rest of the world, they view Canada as a weak sister they can push around).
If this law passes, it will mean that as soon as a device has any anti-copying stuff in it (say, a Vista PC, a set-top cable box, a console, an iPod, a Kindle, etc), it will be illegal for Canadians to modify it, improve it, or make products that interact with it unless they have permission from the (almost always US-based) manufacturer. This puts the whole Canadian tech industry at the mercy of the US industry, unable to innovate or start new businesses that interact with the existing pool of devices and media without getting a license from the States.
If this law passes, it will render all of the made-in-Canada exceptions to copyright for education, archiving, free speech and personal use will be irrelevant: if a technology has a lock that prohibits a use, your right to make that use falls by the wayside. Nevermind that you've got the right to record a show to watch later -- or to record a politician's speech so you can hold him to account later -- the policeman in the device can take that right away with no appeal.
If this law passes, it will make Canada into a backwards nation, lagging behind the UK, Israel and other countries that are passing new copyright laws that dismantle the idea of maximum copyright forever and in all things. Link
The people that will be hurt by this won't be the hackers and the pirates...it will be the legitimate companies trying to make money and the consumers that do all of this legally. This will actually determine who I vote for in the upcoming election...even if a party promises a tax cut.

3.91 - The One with #4
According to the UN's Human Development Index...Canada is the 4th best place to live in the world. Not bad huh? We are preceded by Iceland, Norway and Australia. I checked previous reports and we held the #1 spot from 1994-2000. Last year we were 6th...I guess we're moving back up in the world.

3.90 - The One with Rider Pride
Ever since I moved away from Saskatchewan, my interest in the Canadian Football League dropped dramatically. Back in the good ole days Rider Pride was something that was just a common everyday thing. We had Grey Cup parties...not Super Bowl parties. I remember vividly in 1989 when the Riders won the Grey Cup on a long field goal with no time left on the clock. Our province was in shear bliss. Now that the Riders are back in the championship game since 1997 (which they lost)...the province of Saskatchewan is on an all time high. All the city rivalries have been put aside (Saskatoon is so much better than Regina) and a province is united under one front...to crush the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. I can't say that I'll follow the CFL much, but I'll climb the Rider bandwagon anytime it counts. Once you bleed green, you'll ALWAYS bleed green. Go Riders!

This ad was on many major tech websites today such as cnet, engadget, PCMag, etc. I think it's brilliant. I saw it on Cnet's Window's Vista page...
Apple must have shelled out some serious coin for the perfect placement of the ads.

3.87 - The One with 300
"This is SPARTA!!"
well not really...BUT this is my 300th post...that's a lot of posts. I was reading back on some of the stuff I wrote on not too long ago...and I blog about the most random things. Sometimes its relevant...other times it just...wow...what was I thinking? Although it is nice to go back and remember what the heck was important enough to blog. (btw...Where's Heck? It's the place where people go that don't believe in Gosh")
This writer's strike has claimed it's first victim. My beloved The Office has aired it's last episode this season. Hopefully not...but that remains to be seen when they resolve this strike. I understand why the writers are going on strike...they want a cut in DVD and internet download sales, and the studios don't want to give them anything. I'm glad the actors are supporting their writers...but it's the public that will suffer most. There's only so much reality TV I can take. I will miss The Office and hope that the strike ends sooner than later. I'll just play Assassin's Creed to fill my time...

3.86 - The One with the open letter
Dear old man in the late model champagne colored Chevy Malibu,
Thank you for being so inconsiderate to the other drivers around you while you ran a red light. Not only was it in one of the busiest intersections in town, but it was also during one of the busiest times of the day. I can't say it was rush hour, because, that would never happen here.
I was patiently waiting to turn left when the your light turned red. You were still behind the line when my advance green arrow came up for me to turn. The car in front of me started to turn left while you proceeded to enter the intersection almost hitting her. Not only did you fail to stop, you looked at everyone around you like we were crazy. Little did you know that you were the crazy one. Thank goodness the person in the opposite direction of me noticed your blunder and did not turn left into his lane.
No one was hurt due to your lack of concentration, but please next time look at your traffic light so we can avoid this situation in the future.
sincerely,
T

3.85 - The One with the registry
This past weekend, Naomi and I started our wedding registry. It was a little overwhelming...so much stuff to get...so little time. It's a good thing we're going to register at more than one place because some of the stuff that we found wasn't that nice. Hopefully we'll find better stuff elsewhere...the scanning with the gun was pretty fun I must admit...
I finally got my Wiimote covers in the mail...they were easy to "install", but since I have a charger for them, I'll have to take them off after each use...they have a funky smell to them. It's not rubber, I'm not sure what it is...funny thing is, everyone that's seen them, the first thing they do is smell them. What's the fascination? It's like we're drawn to weird smells.
OH, Vince Carter is out indefinitely with another sprained ankle...suckers

3.84 - The One with the Anniversary
Do video game ratings mean anything to parents? They wouldn't let a kid see a rated 'R' movie, but they'll buy a rated 'M' for Mature game for their kid? I got carded when I bought Halo3 as a "policy"...so you'd think that would be a deterrent for the parent in allowing their kid to play Halo3. Not so much...little kids playing Halo3 on XBox Live has got to be one of the most annoying things ever. They whine and complain and won't shut up. It wouldn't be so bad if you could mute them...but Bungie didn't give us that option so we are graced with the high squeeky voices of minors playing a game that they shouldn't be playing in the first place. Worst thing is? They are a lot better than me. Whatever...check out my Halo3 armour on the left...love the helmet.
On Tuesday, Naomi and I celebrated our 1 year anniversary. Hard to believe how fast time goes by...now we are engaged and in the middle of wedding planning. Which by the way is becoming more of a headache than anything else...apparently it's all worth it in the end. I though I saw the light, but this caterer thing is rearing it's ugly head once again. So I'll ask again...anyone want to donate to the "Naomi & Titus wedding fund"? It's for a good cause...

3.83 - The One with the kicking Monkey
Well our wedding date has been set and all the planning is now in full tilt. Anyone want to donate to the "Naomi & Titus' Wedding Fund?" Weddings are such a ridiculous expensive thing to do and to have...
But I'm sure it's going to be one great party! We had Chris and Sophie come down last weekend to do our Engagement Photos and we've started to plan and design our invitations. I can't tell you how it's going to look but I'll tell you I've never seen a wedding invitation like it.
If you want to see the engagement photos, they are up on Facebook or click here. I think they turned out really well.
I've been trying to post this game into my blog but it won't embed it right so here's a link...I'm totally addicted to it

3.82 - The One with the "Gonk"
It's Halloween again and this year Naomi wanted to hand out candy at my place. For the last few years I've had to work on Halloween night so I didn't have to worry about handing out anything. But this year has been a year of change...
We got some really cute kids that came around for candy...the first kid was a Clone Trooper which I thought was pretty cool to start the night off with. We saw everything from Princesses, to cowboys, to the lazy older kids who wear their hockey equipment to get free candy. The prize for the best costume was a kid who dressed up as a "gonk" droid from Star Wars. Actually he introduced himself as "the repair droid from the Star Wars Battlefront video game". Obviously he made it himself and looked like he was stuck in a box with big open panels so he could see...kinda like "Barrier Man". All I'm thinking is..."wow kid...that's such a geek costume...impressive...but ouch." Then he turns to me and says, "You're wearing a Splinter Cell shirt! I love Splinter Cell!"
...who's the geek now?

alright, get you mind outta the gutter...but you have to go check this site out. It's called Paper Art Gadgets...they make, design and post miniature paper models of some of your favorite electronic items such as the iPhone, PS3, Atari 2600 and even the Wii. It's pretty sweet what you can do with just paper and a little imagination. Now to have the time and the patience to make one of these...

The Office quote of the night:
Michael Scott: [screaming into the office] I DECLARE BANKRUPTCY!
Oscar: Hey, I just wanted you to know, that you can't just say the word bankruptcy and expect anything to happen.
Michael Scott: I didn't say it, I declared it.
Oscar: Still.. that's.. it's not anything.

3.77 - The One with the spoons
We went to Wal Mart yesterday to pick up Transformers on DVD and I had 3 different versions to choose from:
- 1 disc Regular Fullscreen or Widescreen - just the movie, no special features
- 2 disc Special Edition - comes with a special features disc which packed over 2 hours of features
- the Wal Mart exclusive package - comes with the 1 disc movie with no special features and a second disc which has the prequel comic book animated and voiced by Peter Cullen (voice of Optimus Prime)
I know it's a bit late, but this was the best quote from The Office this past week:
Angela: I asked for assorted cutlery and I got back spoons. These are worthless.
Phyllis: I want to understand what you're saying but it's difficult for me when you use that tone.
Angela: Phyllis. These are spoooons. Spoons have rounded tops, and are used to scoop things. What we need are forks, which have prongs, or tiny spears on top. And we need knives, which have blades. Do you understand me now?
Phyllis: Yes.
Angela: Goodie.

3.74 - The One with the cheating Agent Zero
I'll be the first to admit that I'm not the best at Halo 3...that was proven last night when Justus and I played on XBox Live. But I won't go as far as cheating...unlike NBA superstar Gilbert Arenas, who graces the cover of NBA Live 08.
When you play on XBox Live, it records your scores and your achievements displays them on a website for all to see. Arenas wrote on his blog once that he plays Halo on XBox live and so some people looked him up to see how he was doing. What they found on his profile page was him placing first or second in most of his games. The problem was that in his games, he would place first with no kills and the games would only last for a couple minutes. He joins up with a friend and has his other account quit out so he gets 1st place every time. Check out his profile.
When asked about this by Dan Steinburg from the Washington Post, Arenas replied,
"I'm cheating?" he said. "How am I cheating?"
"Gilbert," I asked, approximately," are you creating dummy games with two fake friends and using the wins to rack up experience points?"
"Yeah," he said, laughing. "Yeah."
uhh huh...way to go...you're a great role model Agent Zero

3.73 - The One where we end the fight
The fight is finished...Justus and I beat Halo 3 on Sunday. Well we beat it on 'Normal' co-op mode. The story mode was short but really fun nonetheless. I'll have to play it on single player and see how I do. But Halo is all about the mutliplayer...who wants to come challenge me? I'm sure you'd win...
now onto Madden 08

3.73 - The One with the 2 turkey dinners
This must be the warmest Thanksgiving weedkend in recent memory. I'm not complaining beacause I know what's coming...I even got a change to go golfing yesterday...probably for the last time this season. Anyways, I've got a lot to be thankful about this year. Funny how we need a holiday to really stop and put things into perspective. We live out our lives, and take things for granted most of the time...well at least I do at times. I don't usually stop and think about how incredibly privileged I am. So I'm glad we have this holiday to give us a chance to stop and reflect on what really matters.
This year I get 2 turkey dinners...mmmmm...oh ya...and I got an XBox 360 this weekend too. J-Ray sold me his for a really really good price...he wanted to get the XBox 360 Elite. I was more than happy to take his plain white one off his hands. Picked up Madden 08 and Halo3 as well...
...Happy Turkey Day everyone (except for you guys in the States...Happy Columbus Day)

3.72 -The One with the Wii condom
I'm not sure what to think of this...Nintendo is spending over $18 million to supply all Wii owners with what they call the "Wii Remote Jacket" for free. It's supposed to help with your grip of the remote and I guess add protection to those who get smacked with it.
All you have to do to get one of these is to go on the wii.com site and submit your Wii serial number and the numbers of "remote jackets" that you want. So far I haven't been very successful in getting past that stage. Every time I try it gives me this error:
"Our records indicate that your request for additional Wii Remote Jacket(s) has exceeded the maximum quantity allowed per Wii serial number."
That happened on the first time I tried...and the second time...anyways, I've e-mailed the support department and hopefully I'll get my free Wii condom...errr..."remote jacket".
**UPDATE**
Nintendo got back to me...
Hello,
I'm sorry to hear that you had a problem placing your order for the Wii Remote Jacket. We are aware of the problem and are working on a solution. Please wait a few days before trying to place your order again. When you return to the website and place your order again, you should be able to view the order confirmation page displaying your seven-digit order number. This means your order was successfully completed. Considering that orders will not begin shipping until October 15th, the wait should not delay your order once it does go through. On behalf of Nintendo, I thank you for your patience and apologize for any inconvenience.
Sincerely, Nintendo of America Inc.
looks like I'll be getting my condoms...I wonder if they come in different flavors?

3.71 - The One with the tickets
A couple things to start off:
- Props to Mike Weir for beating Tiger Woods during the President's Cup this past weekend. It's even sweeter that he beat him in Canada
- what the heck happened to the Mets? and the Bears? well the Bears loss wasn't as bad as the Met's collapase!
- congrats to Brett Farve for topping Dan Marino for the all time TD passing record.
- NHL in London? I guess it was a good idea...but the anthem singer? yikes
- now onto 'real' life...
oh ya...I'm saving for a ring too...the kind that has a shiny rock on it...the iPod can wait

3.70 - The One with the Fun Run
ahh...The Office is back. I had to stay up to watch the west coast broadcast at midnight...it made for a long day with me having to get up at 5am to go into Toronto...but it was all worth it. Season 4 kicked off with an hour long episode and I loved every moment of it...from Michael hitting Meredeth with his car and trying to make it seem like it wasn't his fault, to finally seeing Pam and Jim officially together. Highlights from the 'Fun Run'
- Michael present the giant cheque to the "nurse" for $340 made out to 'Science'
- Andy and his nipple chaffing
- Dwight euthanizing Angela's cat because it was sick, "They don't provide milk wool or meat"
- Stanley, Oscar and Creed taking the cab to get drinks instead of running
- Toby winning the race, "Ya! I'm the winner! Toby Flenderson! Where are we?" "5 km from the office" "He couldn't have made it a circle?"
- Seeing Ryan in his Corporate Office
- Kevin trying his hardest to see if Pam and Jim are dating, "Pam and Jim are perfect together, like, PB & J...Pam Beasely and Jim...what a waste!"

3.69 - The One with the Draft
The new hockey season is almost here...and you know what that means...hockey pool time! Last night I participated in a draft hoping for the best. I did a little research, but I don't put too much into it...besides...who really knows what going to happen? The only thing that was a for sure thing was that Sidney Crosby would be the #1 pick. I was lucky enough to select second...this is my team for the year...

3.68 - The One at par
The Loonie is at par with the American Dollar...woah. I can see it now...foreign countries won't want to exchange for the greenback...rather our colourful Monopoly money. So since our Dollar is so high...who's up for a road trip? OR...can someone say...eBay?

3.66 - The One with the delicious candy buttons
Anyone remember this? I don't remember this ad but I do remember the Power Pad...DDR eat your heart out. Check out the caption at the bottom of the ad...honestly who wrote this?
"Here's a nightmare scenario: Your face has cleared up enough that you feel confident asking Susie over to your house. You've got the perfect day all planned out: Your parents are gone for the weekend, there's a romantic dinner ready to be cooked, and you think setting the wall clock four feet off the ground will really show her you care about her very short needs. If you play your cards right, you will be a man before this night is out. But just as she's gotten her shoes off, oh no! Biff Tannen suddenly appears in your den, and he wants to show off his Bruce Lee fighting poses! How to stall him so you can work your mojo? Keep him occupied with the NES Power Pad control system from Nintendo. The buttons resemble delicious candy, and with any luck Biff will be so proud you figured out you can just pound the mad with your fists instead of actually running, he might forget to beat you up. Later, use the mat for more creative purposes to keep your mother from finding a wet spot on the couch. For added fun, keep Track and Field running as you do so. See how far you can get in the long jump."
uhhh...who actually named their kid "Biff"? and the wet spot? yikes

3.65 - The One with the Surprise
SURPRISE!!!! WAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA!!!!
heh...that's what I heard last night at my place after taking Naomi out for dinner on her birthday. I threw a very successful surprise party for my girl...who once told me that I couldn't surprise her. I think I got her pretty good. Thanks for all who came and made it a success.
In other news...#1 draft pick Greg Oden is out for the season...can anyone say Sam Bowie? Who's Sam Bowie? He was the player drafted by Oden's Portland Trail Blazers ahead of some guy named Michael Jordan...

3.63 - The One with the warning
I found this article on Engadet...I told you that crocs were stupid
PSA: Crocs aren't just ugly, they're dangerous
Posted Sep 10th 2007 1:12AM by Ryan Block
Crocs, not unlike Uggs before them, are prime candidates for footware we'd just as well have everyone put back in the closet, especially now that the Japanese National Institute of Technology and Evaluation has apparently issued a public warning regarding the safety of wearing the offensively ugly plastic shoes on escalators. Supposedly some forty people in Japan have been injured wearing the shoes on escalators, including a five year old girl who is said to have lost lost three toenails and suffered a broken toe when her ugly ass shoes got caught in the escalator. Please, Crocs, think of the children -- and everyone else's greater sense of aesthetics.

3.62 - The One with the iTouch
It's official!! The new iPod touch was announced today at Apple's Music event, along with the new nano (fatty) and the classic iPod with a 160GB model. 160GB!! Anyways, I'm most excited for the iPod touch...it's basically the iPhone without the phone. Look for one of these to be in my hands by October!

3.61 - The One with MLG
I was tolerant when they showed billiards and darts on my sports channels on TV. Then they started showing poker...and the professional poker tour. How is that a sport? It's a game...fun one at that...but it requires no physical training at all. Now the big thing is the MLG - Major League Gaming...where they show tournaments of video game players competing in teams. That's right video games...and these are 'pros'. They get paid to play games like Halo 2 and Rainbow Six competitively...on tour. The worst thing is...they are showing it on my sports channels!! It's not even a sport! ESPN has already done what MTV did...gotten away from what broadcasting they were built on. I don't even think MTV shows music videos anymore. ESPN is mostly sports talk shows...they had to create ESPN2 just so that they can show regular live sporting events...although ESPN still has SportsCenter every night. Once they start showing poker, or MLG highlights on SportsCenter...then you'll know that America has really hit rock bottom.

3.60 - The One with the Labour Day long weekend
I enjoy long weekends, especially now that I don't have to work any of them. It's a nice break and a great excuse to pack it in with so much to do. Here are some of my highlights:
- Emily came for a visit after spending a year in Sierra Leone. Nice to see her again...
- CNE on Saturday...not as big of a deal as I remembered it was
- the food in the Food Building at the Ex...wow...so much to see and eat
- The Acme Cheese Cake Factory...too much to choose from
- $3 parking a block north of the Ex...too bad for those suckers who paid up the nose for parking downtown Toronto
- flour bombs at the VanEssen Estate...always a good time
- shot a +8 at Shelter Valley Pines...pretty good since I found the adjacent fairways twice

3.59 - The One with the double standard
ever heard of Viacom? They are the parent company of MTV, VH1, Paramount Pictures, Dreamworks, etc. Pretty big in the entertainment world...and obviously a big player in the copyright infringement front. Recently they have filed a lawsuit against YouTube for $1 billion...that's a lot of cash. Here's the kicker...
Christopher Knight, an avid Star Wars fan made a video for his Rockingham County Board of Education campaign. He posted it on YouTube and it was also aired on his local TV station. Then the brilliant people over at Viacom's VH1 took his clip without his permission or notification, and broadcast it on their Web Junk 2.0 show. Knight then put the VH1's clip of his video on YouTube prompting YouTube to send him a letter stating that Viacom claims that the material is infringing on copyright.
So in a nut shell...Viacom took Knight's non-profit video without asking permission and then uses it for profit. Then when he put it up on YouTube...Viacom made them pull the video claiming copyright infringement. I think if anyone should claim copyright infringement it would be George Lucas...

3.58 - The One with the jerseys
Is this the last image that we'll see of Michael Vick in the NFL? The once 1st pick overall by the Atlanta Falcons plead guilty to dog fighting and all the other stuff that doesn't need to be repeated. This story has be written, scrutinized over and over and I'm sure we'll hear more of it as time goes on.
But here's my issue...Vick has been my favourite player in the NFL since he was drafted. I even bought his jersey a couple years back and wore it with pride. Now...it sits in my closet. I've seen other people have their dogs chew Vick's trading cards, pee on his shirts/jerseys, etc. I'm not about the have a dog rip up something that I paid a good price for. I thought about selling it on eBay...but who wants to buy a Vick jersey now? If I didn't already own one...I would be avoiding them like a plague. So what to do?
Speaking of jerseys...have you seen the new Vancouver Canucks one for this year? ouch...who approves these things? The colours are nice...back to the original...the re-colour of the orca logo I can live with...but the word "Vancouver" in big block letters on the front? What happened there? Someone dropped the ball on that one...

3.57 - The One with the beauty pageant
I don't understand why they have beauty pageants...at least why they make the girls answer thought provoking questions. Case and point right here with 2007's Miss Teen USA pageant where Miss Teen South Carolina...well...uh...
Question: Recent polls have shown a fifth of Americans can't locate the United States on a world map. Why do you think this is?
Miss Teen South Carolina: "I personally believe the U.S. Americans are unable to do so because, uh, some, uh...people out there in our nation don't have maps, and, uh, I believe that our education like such as South Africa and, uh, the Iraq everywhere like, such as and...I believe that they should, our education over here in the U.S. should help the U.S., err, uh, should help South Africa and should help the Iraq and the Asian countries, so we will be able to build up our future for our...

3.53 - The one with the barricade
Last night I was driving home from Naomi's and I came across a police barricade. The street I usually drive down was blocked off so I had to turn around and go a different way. I was curious so I drove around to get closer and I saw a bunch of local police cars and some OPP cars. Turns out there was a guy who locked himself in a house after a domestic incident with his girlfriend. Crazy stuff...
Cobourg police and Northumberland OPP officers set up a command post in a school parking lot at Elgin and D’Arcy Street in Cobourg Tuesday evening.

Police arrest man barricaded in Cobourg residence
Mandy Martin- Cobourg Police
Local News - Wednesday, August 15, 2007
A domestic incident escalated to emergency response status in Cobourg Tuesday evening.
Around 8:30 p.m., Cobourg police received information a female resident was assaulted by her boyfriend.
The woman made her way to a neighbour’s residence for safety from where police attempted to make contact with the boyfriend. Several attempts were made to contact the man by phone, with no response. The male locked the residence and there was evidence he might be armed with a knife.
As a result, the OPP were contacted for assistance for a barricaded person. Members of the OPP Emergency Response Team, Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU) and negotiations units arrived.
After further attempts to contact the male, and his continued refusal to exit the residence, TRU set off explosive distraction devices and entered the building.
The man was located upstaitrs of the residence. He was taken into custody without further incident.
The male, a 32-year-old Toronto resident, was charged with assault, threatening death and breach of probation. He was held in custody for a bail hearing in Cobourg today, Aug. 15.

3.52 - The One with the lights
I was watching an episode of 'Friends' last night...and have you ever noticed that when the characters come back to the apartment and no one is home...no matter what time of day...the lights are always on? All of them...including the bathroom. Not very cost effective when you live in Manhattan. But then again...it is a tv show and they are actually walking on a sound stage...still something to think about...flick off

3.51 - The One with the airports
I've been through my fair share of airports over the last year, and to be honest...my favorite one is Pearson International in Toronto. LaGuardia in NYC is old and extremely cramped. JFK is amazing...but seems too big and disconnected. Detroit's NWA Terminal is pretty sweet with the monorail that goes above the gates. SeaTac (Seattle/Tacoma) is also disjointed but effective. Atlanta's Delta Terminal is super busy all the time, and Bermuda's International Airport is nice...but the girl at the Delta desk was on some power trip and I just wasn't in the mood for her ignorance. I coulda smacked her...she just added to my frustrations with Delta and I will never fly with them again.
But back to Pearson International...it just doesn't seem as cramped at the check-in desks, the people that work there want to help you, and going through security is painless...unless you're an idiot. The one complaint is the Canadian Customs officers who basically have too much power...but I suppose that's the price you pay to live in a safe country like Canada.

3.49 - The One in Paradise
Bermuda is such a beautiful country...so much to see and do on an island that is only about 20 square miles. The only problem is getting from one end to another. There is no road that goes straight across...all of the roads are curve every which way and the speed limit is 35km on the entire island. It's easier getting from one place to the other by boat...but then you need a boat and a place to dock it. But all of that just adds to the fun of traveling around the island. Here are some photo highlights thus far...
Welcome to The city of Hamilton
Bermuda Hibiscus - these are everywhere
'The Cathedral' in Hamilton
a Royal Carribean cruise ship at Dockyard

3.48 - The One with the long day in NYC
who knew that travelling could be such a pain in the ass? Here's what went down...
- left home at 5.30am to get to Pearson International for our flight to NYC at 8.15am
- got there no problem...went through security, customs...very smooth
- landed at La Guardia on time at 9.45am
- our American Airlines plane couldn't dock at the gate because another plane was there. it was a medical emergency so they had to take someone off the plane.
- when we did finally get to the gate...there wasn't anyone there to open the door so we had to wait even longer.
- 40 minutes after landing...we finally get off the plane and make our way to our connecting flight with Delta Airlines to Bermuda
- got to the Delta terminal and it was a zoo.
- tried to get our boarding passes but the computer wouldn't let us...we asked a Delta agent to help and he had to go up and talk to his manager.
- By this time our bags and our flight were leaving and we were stuck in NYC...hoping to get to Bermuda
- Delta booked us for the same flight for the following day and sent us back to AA and told us that that should be responsible for us missing our flight and provide us with a hotel room for the night.
- We went back to the AA terminal and found an AA agent and explained it to her...she thought that Delta was crazy and that AA has a flight leaving at 4.30pm from JFK to Bermuda
- we then took her word and lined up at the ticketing booth and waited in line (11.00am)
- by 1.00pm we had our tickets and boarding pass for the 4.30pm flight to Bermuda out of JFK and sent there in a limo (first time sitting since getting off our first flight at 9.45am)
- got to JFK's American Airlines terminal and it was something else. ever see the movie The Terminal with Tom Hanks? It looked like that...except not as much stuff.
- Naomi said it looked like a space station...
- Exhausted and hungry...we went through security and found out that our flight was delayed for 2 hours. I think it was because it raining like crazy there. All the flights to Toronto and Montreal were cancelled.
- So we found a place to eat...and then went shopping in the terminal.
- There was an Oakley store there and for those who know me...they know I like my Oakley sunglasses (ya..say it...UH OH)
- ...and if you haven't guessed by now...I came out with a new pair of CUSTOM white Monster Dog glasses with ice iridium lenses. They were cheaper than any of my other Oakleys by a lot...PLUS they are custom one of a kind.
- We didn't get on our flight to Bermuda until 6.45pm and didn't take off until 7.15pm.
- 10.20pm local time (Bermuda) we landed and went through customs...and thankfully our bags were there waiting for us since 2.15pm
what a day...I need to try to change our tickets coming back I think. word of advice...pay the extra for non-stop flight...or if you have to have a connecting flight...make sure it's with the same airline. We woke up to rain this morning...but we're here...

3.46 - The One with the Personal Assistant
I had the unique and fabulous opportunity to have my very own personal assistant..although it was circumstantial...it still was great. Dalton just so happened to be working on something else while answering my phone and text messages while I just lay in a pool chair floating around in the pool. He would go inside and work on his thing...then come out and relay a message to me and I would dictate a response and it would be sent. I can see why all these celebrities and CEO's have PA's...it's so much nicer for someone else to do your work when you just want to be lazy.
Thanks Dalton

3.45 - The One with the rat
As my time here working at the group home ends, I took my favourite client out for dinner and a movie. It's great when you take them out into the community and they are treated with respect. But then there's the odd time where someone is insensitive and says something that just irks you. Normally it's a kid and they don't know better...but when it's an adult...that just irritates me.
We were out to see Ratatouille (which by the way was an excellent film) and R was having a good time looking around at his surroundings, taking it all in. Now to give you a little background on R...he tends to talk to himself quietly and constantly. He only says a few phrases and repeats them over and over. But he will get excited and cheer when he hears it. Anyways, R and I are in the theatre...mainly populated by children and their parents, enjoying the movie. R talks to himself for abit...repeats a few things over and over. He says a few things a little louder...but still is repeating what he's saying. A lady a few rows up turns and glares at us...obviously not being able to see who is making the noise. Maybe 10 minutes later she turns again and says, "Will you STOP that!" It took everything in me not to get up and call her out...also R was sitting closer to the aisle to I couldn't get out.
Soon after, her friend got up and went out to get a drink and must have went to complain to an usher who came back and told them that R came in in a wheelchair and was disabled. After the movie was finished I got R's wheelchair and I was getting him back into it, when the lady came up to me and apologized not knowing he was disabled. I just looked at her and said, "That's fine...it happens all the time...isn't it sad?"
I'm sure she was embarrassed...but what really get's me is that she applogized to me. It's no me who she should apologize to...it's R. Plus...wouldn't you clue in that if someone is talking thoughout a movie...and is repeating the same thing over and over...that maybe...just maybe that he/she can't help it? Perhaps I've been working at this job for so long that I just take it as second nature. Other than the lady rat...the evening was lots of fun. R had a great time at East Side Mario's and at the movies eating tons of popcorn. I'm going to miss working with the guys...

3.43 - The One with...who cares?
so did anyone really care about Live Earth this weekend? The intention was great...but I can't see anyone drastically changing their ways. I love how they had a bunch of rock stars who live a lavish lifestyle with their Hummers and private jets headlining this event. My favourite was this Australian band who wore black t-shirts that read "Say NO to Nuclear Energy". I wonder if they know that they probably live off of nuclear energy every single day...
and for some reason I can't add a title to my post today...weird
***Derek tells me that Australia doesn't use Nuclear power...don't I feel stupid

3.42 - The One with More then Meets the Eye
It was quite a weekend...I don't remember any other weekend in which so much stuff was just jammed packed into it. From seeing movies, to the Waterfront Festival, to the iPhone release and of course...'More than Meets the Eye"! Here are the highlights:
- iPhone Friday...with the release of the iPhone in the USA and all the coverage...it just makes me want one so much more. It looks so sleek and sexy...I will have one sooner or later.
- saw Live Free or Die Hard on Friday to kick off the long weekend. It was a "turn your brain off and watch" kinda movie. Justin (Hi I'm a Mac) Long was hilarious, Bruce Willis makes a triumphant return as Det. John MacClane...BUT...it wasn't really a Die Hard movie. It could have been the 24 movie with Bruce Willis instead of Kiefer Sutherland. The swearing wasn't there...but there was action packed. Still a very enjoyable movie
- The Waterfront Festival in town was pretty good this year. All the same kinds of things were happening...but the biggest highlight was Boss Hogs Ribs. I've never had better ribs before...so much better than any restaurant. I can't wait for them to come back for Rib Fest later in August.
- of course the Fireworks on Sunday were great as well. Don't you love how we spend so much money to shoot stuff in the air...and people flock and camp out for a 15 minute show. Regardless....fireworks are always fun to see.
- NHL free agency started on Sunday...and it looks like the Rangers and the Flyers have completely different teams. Too bad for the Sabres and the Islanders who lost all their good players.
- Vince (cry baby) Carter signed back with New Jersey after saying he wanted to test the free agent market. I guess he figured out that no one wants him for the price he was asking.
- Congrats to Jaimie and Tammy with their new baby boy Ethan Richard! Naomi and I went to visit them in the hospital on Saturday. Cute kid...and I've never seen Jaimie smile so much...such a proud father.
- Transformers the Movie. It was AMAZING! Beinto end off the weekend with a bang...Darrien and I went to an advanced screening ofg a big fan of the Transformers since I was a kid this was THE movie I've been looking forward to for a long time. I didn't want to overhype it before i went and I have a problem of stuff like that. I love movie spoilers and even if I know everything that is going to happen in the movie, I still enjoy it. This one...I saw all the trailers...didn't read too much on it...and I was so impressed. In typical Michael Bay fashion the movie was loaded with action and everything was just HUGE. It was funny, quirky and a little cheesy in some spots...but it didn't matter. Once I saw the robots transform...I was in my element. I need to see it again...

3.41 - The One with the tan - Part II
it's the summer time and for most people...they tan. For me...I just get darker and darker. I've never thought much of it until this weekend when we went to the brand new Asian Buffet in down. I was there with Trav, Dan, his co-worker Meghan and my brother. The restaurant is run by some Chinese people and when the waitress came to our table she asked my brother if he was Chinese. He replied yes and she was surprised that Chinese people actually live in our town. Then she turns to me and asked if I was Filipino. Yep...that's right...Filipino. I guess I'm a little too tanned for your average Chinese guy. Perhaps I should frost my tips to complete the look...

3.40 - The One with the 13th Ocean
ok...after seeing Ocean's 13...I really wanted to be a part of a heist. Didn't have to be elaborate...just any old heist. I was up on the mezzanine level at the theater and they had the large movie poster banners just strung up from there. I was thinking how easy it would be to steal it...ya know...go in really late...or early...when not many people are there...take a knife and cut the fishing wire and grab the banner...roll it up...take the stairs down and go out the side door. You'd need a couple other people in on it...but I was sure it could be done. THEN I saw the security camera's that were pointed directly at the banners. Oh well...it was fun just to think about it. Even if I could pull it off...what would I do with a 12 foot by 6 foot banner?

3.38 - The One with the backstage
Ever been backstage at a concert? I'm not talking about one that you're playing in...or working at. I mean backstage as a fan...it's something else. On Saturday we had the privilege of being backstage and meeting Hillsong United right before they went on stage at the Molson Amphitheater. To meet the band is one thing...but to be able to look out at 14,000 fans eagerly awaiting the show to start was amazing. That's when my inner rock star wanted out...I've played in front of 500 people before...but no one always likes what you play and not everyone is into it at a church service. But imagine playing in front to even 100 people who are so into what you're playing...that would be something else. I guess it's all a dream for now...
here's my random thought for the day...why are there midgets wrestling in the WWE?

3.37 - The One "At World's End"
Last night we went to see the latest and perhaps last installment of Pirates of the Carribean. It was pretty good. I enjopyed the first one, was a little confused by the second but this one tied everything up quite nicely. Johnny Depp is brillant once again as Captian Jack Sparrow...and the cameo by the Rolling Stones Keith Richards as Jack's dad was fun. There were also some elements of the film that confused me...but for the sake of not spoiling it for those of you who haven't seen it...I won't ask. The film ended with an opporunity for another Pirates movie with Captian Jack. Rumours have Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightly not wanting to be in another Pirates film...so if you stay after the credits roll...there is a short clip that ties up their storyline.
I've seen 2 of the 6 '3rd' movies this summer...I missed Shrek...next up...Ocean's 13
oh ya...one more thing...I am a beta tester for Joost (All the things you love about TV, fused with the interactive power of the internet – just the way you want it.) , and if you want to check it out...I have invites to give out...all I need is your e-mail address. If you don't know what Joost is...it's pretty much "on demand internet tv"...check out their site.

3.35 - The One with May 2-4
Another May long weekend in the books...I'm still recovering...hence the reason I'm blogging on Wednesday...here's what went down...
- a great round of 18 at Timber Ridge Golf Club in Brighton. It's on of Canada's top 100 public courses. I shot a 91...not that bad
- on the way there I drove backwards on the 401
- the reason why was because the traffic came to a dead stop and we were 1.5 km past the last on ramp...so I followed a bunch of cars who backed up onto the on-ramp. Fun stuff
- worked the midnight shifts all weekend...
- went to Toronto FC vs DC United at BMO Field on Saturday afternoon. If you have a chance get to a game. It's something else...the fans are incredible
- led worship on Sunday morning...just before the first service, an older couple decided to make their point known that they didn't like us. Right after we did our sound check the lady said, "You're drummer NEEDS lessons." and her husband backed her up by exclaiming, "He's playing too loud!"
- funny thing is...Ryan was playing the drums and he's been teaching music for about 4 years now...and the reason is was loud...was because there was only about 20 people in the auditorium which seats about 300.
- isn't that great encouragement?
- we put on a brave face and went on to sing through the service...every time I looked at the couple they put their head down trying to hide from me...
- Sunday was also my mom's 50th birthday! Happy Birthday mom!!
- we went to Toronto for a Chinese Banquet for the Birthday...mmmmmm food
thanks for reading...you just earned a Schrute Buck
