4.26 - The One with the 7th day

Day 7

Microsoft e-mailed me yesterday and told me that they have received my XBox 360 and that I can check the status of the repair by logging on the the Xbox website. There it explains to me which step they are on...the problem is...they only have 4 steps:

  1. After your repair order is submitted, your status will change to Repair order submitted. This means that it is in the queue to be processed.
  2. After it is processed, your repair order status will change to Waiting for device at service center. The total length of this process depends on you! We will ship an empty box to you by using ground service. When you receive the box, you will pack your console using the included instructions. Send it back to us by using the ground shipping that is included.
  3. When we receive your console, the status will change to Device received at service center. It will require up to two business days to repair or replace your console.
  4. When your console is repaired or replaced, we will ship it to you by using ground service. The status of your order will change to Device shipped to customer.
so currently we're on step 3...hopefully they send it back to me on Monday...here's hoping. At least I didn't have a customized case that got cleaned by the repair staff. Read the article after the jump.

Once upon a time there was a boy who loved video games. This boy bought an Xbox 360. Two years later it broke. The boy had no choice but to send it in for repairs. It was then that Microsoft decided to screw him over. A very big bend on over so we can give you the royal treatment sort of screwing.

4.25 - The One with the Customer

A few posts back I introduced you to notalwaysright.com. Here's a post from it that brings back memories...

Me: “Thank you for calling The UPS Store, this is Rick speaking, how may I help you?”

Caller: “Yeah, hi. I need to find out how much it will be to send something to Iowa.”

Me: “I’d be happy to get you an estimate on shipping. Could I get the dimensions and weight of the box as well as the ZIP code of the destination?”

Caller: “Yeah, it’s probably about 10 pounds, and about this big.”

Me: “Well, I need a ZIP code for the destination, but you didn’t really give me the dimensions of the box.”

Caller: “The ZIP code is 51365, and it’s about this big.”

Me: “Ma’am, I can’t see your hands, so you’ll have to give me some sort of numeric dimension to work with.”

Caller: “Oh, let me get a ruler–” *click*

Me: *sigh*

Customer in the store who overheard the phone conversation: “Are you serious?!”
...funny thing is...it happened ALL the time

4.24 - The One with the "coffin"

Day 5

When I called Microsoft on Saturday to tell them that my XBox 360 had red lighted they told me that they would send out a box (coffin) for it to be sent back to their repair facility. They told me that it would be about a week before I get it. I thought that it was coming from the States, but to my surprise...it came yesterday (Tuesday) from Toronto. So this gives me a little more hope that my XBox will come back to me sooner than I though. Here are some pics of the "coffin"...I'm dropping it off at the Purolator depot today to be sent back...

...it came with instructions with pictures, telling me what to put in the box...

...the XBox 360 getting it's foam on...

...packed up and ready to go back to it's maker.

4.23 - The One with the 3 Red Rings

3 Red Rings...

I didn't think it would happen to me...

...I've heard it happening to others...but not me...

...but...it happened...

my XBox 360 finally succumbed the infamous 3 Red Rings of death. Basically it means there's a hardware failure and it's not going to work anymore. Luckily Microsoft is pretty good about this and will fix it for free. But that means no Rock Band for a month!

Well I still have my Wii...and ever since I got Rock Band, I haven't paid much attention to my Wii. It looks lonely...it's a good thing that Smash Bros. Brawl is coming out soon...

4.22 - The One with the lightsabers

I sold 2 toy lightsabers on ebay for $88. One was a Darth Maul one which I picked up at Zellers for $5.00 on clearance...and the other I got for free. $88!! I was maybe hoping for $10...but I'm not complaining. Here's another Star Wars inspired comic...

4.21 - The One with the ultimate snipe

I've been playing Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and there's a mission where you're a sniper and have to hit a target about a mile away. You have to take into account the distance, the wind, and even the curvature of the earth. When you hit the target it's really satisfying...all that work for one shot. Gives you a new respect for the snipers in the military...

Last night the US military upped the ante and shot down one of their dying spy satellites orbiting 130 miles over the Pacific Ocean with a missle. The 5,000-pound satellite, roughly the size of a school bus was traveling over 17,000 miles an hour when it was shot down. Because it was in orbit they couldn't use the heat signature to hit it...imagine the amount of math that had to go into this? That's impressive. Now the questions remains...was this a little too much? Granted the satellite was going to fall out of orbit soon and did contain toxic gas...but maybe the US wanted to make a statement..."hey look...we just shot a moving target from really far away..." Whichever is the case...I'm still impressed.

4.20 - The One with the end of the format war

well it's over...Blu Ray has won the war over HD DVD. So what? I didn't jump on any of the bandwagons, so it really doesn't affect me. I do however have an XBox 360 which has an HD DVD player that you can buy separately...rumour has it that it will have a Blu Ray player. Maybe I'll get that...either way...I'm still not sure that Blu Ray is the way to go. I have a feeling that downloading HD movies/shows will be the way to go soon.

Now...who do you think would win? the 5'6" Jet Li? or the 7'6" Yao Ming?

4.19 - The one with the Superman dunk

one word...wow

here's the video

Ya I know he didn't really dunk it...kinda threw it in...but c'mon...the showmanship and the perfect pose? That was nuts. Here are my other 3 favouite dunks of the evening...

#3 - My man, Jamario Moon - 360 off the bounce

...the extension...look how far away fromt he rim he is when he throws it down...yikes

#2 - Gerald Green - Birthday Candle

...gotta be the most creative dunk all night...

#1 - Dwight Howard's Self Alley Opp, left to right off the backboard

...he tapped the ball off the backboard to himself!!

I think this year's dunk competition ranks pretty high on one of the best all time. Those boys put on a show. Still lovin' up the Superman dunk...

4.14 - The One with TJ's return

About seven weeks ago, TJ Ford was taken off the court in Atlanta on a stretcher when he was fouled hard and hit his head on the floor as he came down. TJ had missed an entire season from head and neck injuries so this one looked really bad. Everyone was concerned and no one knew when he'd be able to come back to play.

Last night I turned on the TV late in the first half to watch the Raptors play the Heat in Miami. Then I see TJ Ford checking into the game...huh? I had to check to see if I was watching the game live or if I was watching an older game. Nope...it was live and TJ was back in uniform and on the court with a huge smile. The Raptors were up big and it was a great game for TJ to come in and play. He capped off the game with a dunk off the baseline...basically saying..."I'm Back!"

Speaking of dunks...check this video from Jamario Moon who's participating in the Dunk Competition soon...

click here if you can't see it.

I know you can't see the last dunk but you can see where he takes off from. It's a good step before the foul line!!! If he makes that dunk it'll be incredible...can't wait...

4.13 - The One that "Carries on My Wayward Son"

Chris sent me this video...it's amazing. This 13 year old girl plays Carry on My Wayward Son by Kansas on a rock organ. Too bad the audience doesn't know how to react when she finishes. All I can think of is Guitar Hero 2...sweet song
