On New Years day, Naomi and I ventured off to the Canadian Capital City for some R&R. We stayed at the historic Fairmont Chateau Laurier for a couple nights thanks to the family and friends rate I get. I knew that the World Jr. Hockey Tournament was being held in Ottawa...but I didn't expect that we'd be staying at the same hotel as Team Russia, Germany, Sweden, USA and of course...Team Canada. We actually stayed on the same floor as Team USA. I've been to Ottawa many times, but this is ther first time I actually stayed in a hotel during my time there. It was great being so close to everything.
After Ottawa we made our way to Montreal to visit Naomi's brother and his family. It was fun to see my little niece walking and roaming about. She's such a happy kid.
And then came the drive home...we took off from Montreal around 5pm. Clear skies...good road conditions. I get a text from my dad saying that it's freezing rain back home and that the system was moving east towards us. It didn't hit us until afterBrockville...big splotches of freezing rain hit my windshield making it impossible to see anything. The road conditions we horrific, people didn't know where the lanes were, and to top it off...I ran out of washer fluid. I somehow made it to Gananoque and got some more washer fluid at a gas station...let me tell you...not fun at all. The only good thing that happened on that drive home...I filled up in Brockville at 57.6. I don't think I've seen gas that low in 12 years...
