Crocs, not unlike Uggs before them, are prime candidates for footware we'd just as well have everyone put back in the closet, especially now that the Japanese National Institute of Technology and Evaluation has apparently issued a public warning regarding the safety of wearing the offensively ugly plastic shoes on escalators. Supposedly some forty people in Japan have been injured wearing the shoes on escalators, including a five year old girl who is said to have lost lost three toenails and suffered a broken toe when her ugly ass shoes got caught in the escalator. Please, Crocs, think of the children -- and everyone else's greater sense of aesthetics.

3.62 - The One with the iTouch

It's official!! The new iPod touch was announced today at Apple's Music event, along with the new nano (fatty) and the classic iPod with a 160GB model. 160GB!! Anyways, I'm most excited for the iPod touch...it's basically the iPhone without the phone. Look for one of these to be in my hands by October!

3.61 - The One with MLG

I was tolerant when they showed billiards and darts on my sports channels on TV. Then they started showing poker...and the professional poker tour. How is that a sport? It's a game...fun one at that...but it requires no physical training at all. Now the big thing is the MLG - Major League Gaming...where they show tournaments of video game players competing in teams. That's right video games...and these are 'pros'. They get paid to play games like Halo 2 and Rainbow Six competitively...on tour. The worst thing is...they are showing it on my sports channels!! It's not even a sport! ESPN has already done what MTV did...gotten away from what broadcasting they were built on. I don't even think MTV shows music videos anymore. ESPN is mostly sports talk shows...they had to create ESPN2 just so that they can show regular live sporting events...although ESPN still has SportsCenter every night. Once they start showing poker, or MLG highlights on SportsCenter...then you'll know that America has really hit rock bottom.

3.60 - The One with the Labour Day long weekend

I enjoy long weekends, especially now that I don't have to work any of them. It's a nice break and a great excuse to pack it in with so much to do. Here are some of my highlights:

• Emily came for a visit after spending a year in Sierra Leone. Nice to see her again...
• CNE on Saturday...not as big of a deal as I remembered it was
• the food in the Food Building at the Ex...wow...so much to see and eat
• The Acme Cheese Cake Factory...too much to choose from
• $3 parking a block north of the Ex...too bad for those suckers who paid up the nose for parking downtown Toronto
• flour bombs at the VanEssen Estate...always a good time
• shot a +8 at Shelter Valley Pines...pretty good since I found the adjacent fairways twice

too bad every weekend wasn't a long weekend. Anyways, The Office Season 3 on DVD today...and the big Apple announcement tomorrow!! I'm thinking iPod touch!

3.59 - The One with the double standard

ever heard of Viacom? They are the parent company of MTV, VH1, Paramount Pictures, Dreamworks, etc. Pretty big in the entertainment world...and obviously a big player in the copyright infringement front. Recently they have filed a lawsuit against YouTube for $1 billion...that's a lot of cash. Here's the kicker...

Christopher Knight, an avid Star Wars fan made a video for his Rockingham County Board of Education campaign. He posted it on YouTube and it was also aired on his local TV station. Then the brilliant people over at Viacom's VH1 took his clip without his permission or notification, and broadcast it on their Web Junk 2.0 show. Knight then put the VH1's clip of his video on YouTube prompting YouTube to send him a letter stating that Viacom claims that the material is infringing on copyright.

So in a nut shell...Viacom took Knight's non-profit video without asking permission and then uses it for profit. Then when he put it up on YouTube...Viacom made them pull the video claiming copyright infringement. I think if anyone should claim copyright infringement it would be George Lucas...

3.58 - The One with the jerseys

Is this the last image that we'll see of Michael Vick in the NFL? The once 1st pick overall by the Atlanta Falcons plead guilty to dog fighting and all the other stuff that doesn't need to be repeated. This story has be written, scrutinized over and over and I'm sure we'll hear more of it as time goes on.

But here's my issue...Vick has been my favourite player in the NFL since he was drafted. I even bought his jersey a couple years back and wore it with pride. Now...it sits in my closet. I've seen other people have their dogs chew Vick's trading cards, pee on his shirts/jerseys, etc. I'm not about the have a dog rip up something that I paid a good price for. I thought about selling it on eBay...but who wants to buy a Vick jersey now? If I didn't already own one...I would be avoiding them like a plague. So what to do?

Speaking of jerseys...have you seen the new Vancouver Canucks one for this year? ouch...who approves these things? The colours are nice...back to the original...the re-colour of the orca logo I can live with...but the word "Vancouver" in big block letters on the front? What happened there? Someone dropped the ball on that one...

I don't understand why they have beauty pageants...at least why they make the girls answer thought provoking questions. Case and point right here with 2007's Miss Teen USA pageant where Miss Teen South Carolina...well...uh...

3.53 - The one with the barricade

Last night I was driving home from Naomi's and I came across a police barricade. The street I usually drive down was blocked off so I had to turn around and go a different way. I was curious so I drove around to get closer and I saw a bunch of local police cars and some OPP cars. Turns out there was a guy who locked himself in a house after a domestic incident with his girlfriend. Crazy stuff...

A domestic incident escalated to emergency response status in Cobourg Tuesday evening.

Around 8:30 p.m., Cobourg police received information a female resident was assaulted by her boyfriend.

The woman made her way to a neighbour’s residence for safety from where police attempted to make contact with the boyfriend. Several attempts were made to contact the man by phone, with no response. The male locked the residence and there was evidence he might be armed with a knife.

As a result, the OPP were contacted for assistance for a barricaded person. Members of the OPP Emergency Response Team, Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU) and negotiations units arrived.

After further attempts to contact the male, and his continued refusal to exit the residence, TRU set off explosive distraction devices and entered the building.

The man was located upstaitrs of the residence. He was taken into custody without further incident.

The male, a 32-year-old Toronto resident, was charged with assault, threatening death and breach of probation. He was held in custody for a bail hearing in Cobourg today, Aug. 15.

3.52 - The One with the lights

I was watching an episode of 'Friends' last night...and have you ever noticed that when the characters come back to the apartment and no one is home...no matter what time of day...the lights are always on? All of them...including the bathroom.Not very cost effective when you live in Manhattan. But then again...it is a tv show and they are actually walking on a sound stage...still something to think about...flick off

3.51 - The One with the airports

I've been through my fair share of airports over the last year, and to be honest...my favorite one is Pearson International in Toronto. LaGuardia in NYC is old and extremely cramped. JFK is amazing...but seems too big and disconnected. Detroit's NWA Terminal is pretty sweet with the monorail that goes above the gates. SeaTac (Seattle/Tacoma) is also disjointed but effective. Atlanta's Delta Terminal is super busy all the time, and Bermuda's International Airport is nice...but the girl at the Delta desk was on some power trip and I just wasn't in the mood for her ignorance. I coulda smacked her...she just added to my frustrations with Delta and I will never fly with them again.

But back to Pearson International...it just doesn't seem as cramped at the check-in desks, the people that work there want to help you, and going through security is painless...unless you're an idiot. The one complaint is the Canadian Customs officers who basically have too much power...but I suppose that's the price you pay to live in a safe country like Canada.

3.50 - The One with the beach

I've been to the beach before. We have a nice one in our town...but swimming in the water is a little sketchy. Swimming in the ocean in Bermuda...WOW!!

3.49 - The One in Paradise

Bermuda is such a beautiful country...so much to see and do on an island that is only about 20 square miles. The only problem is getting from one end to another. There is no road that goes straight across...all of the roads are curve every which way and the speed limit is 35km on the entire island. It's easier getting from one place to the other by boat...but then you need a boat and a place to dock it. But all of that just adds to the fun of traveling around the island. 3.48 - The One with the long day in NYC

who knew that travelling could be such a pain in the ass? Here's what went down...

• left home at 5.30am to get to Pearson International for our flight to NYC at 8.15am
• got there no problem...went through security, customs...very smooth
• landed at La Guardia on time at 9.45am
• our American Airlines plane couldn't dock at the gate because another plane was there. it was a medical emergency so they had to take someone off the plane.
• when we did finally get to the gate...there wasn't anyone there to open the door so we had to wait even longer.
• 40 minutes after landing...we finally get off the plane and make our way to our connecting flight with Delta Airlines to Bermuda
• got to the Delta terminal and it was a zoo.
• tried to get our boarding passes but the computer wouldn't let us...we asked a Delta agent to help and he had to go up and talk to his manager.
• By this time our bags and our flight were leaving and we were stuck in NYC...hoping to get to Bermuda
• Delta booked us for the same flight for the following day and sent us back to AA and told us that that should be responsible for us missing our flight and provide us with a hotel room for the night.
• We went back to the AA terminal and found an AA agent and explained it to her...she thought that Delta was crazy and that AA has a flight leaving at 4.30pm from JFK to Bermuda
• we then took her word and lined up at the ticketing booth and waited in line (11.00am)
• by 1.00pm we had our tickets and boarding pass for the 4.30pm flight to Bermuda out of JFK and sent there in a limo (first time sitting since getting off our first flight at 9.45am)
• got to JFK's American Airlines terminal and it was something else. ever see the movie The Terminal with Tom Hanks? It looked like that...except not as much stuff.
• Naomi said it looked like a space station...
• Exhausted and hungry...we went through security and found out that our flight was delayed for 2 hours. I think it was because it raining like crazy there. All the flights to Toronto and Montreal were cancelled.
• So we found a place to eat...and then went shopping in the terminal.
• There was an Oakley store there and for those who know me...they know I like my Oakley sunglasses (ya..say it...UH OH)
• ...and if you haven't guessed by now...I came out with a new pair of CUSTOM white Monster Dog glasses with ice iridium lenses. They were cheaper than any of my other Oakleys by a lot...PLUS they are custom one of a kind.
• We didn't get on our flight to Bermuda until 6.45pm and didn't take off until 7.15pm.
• 10.20pm local time (Bermuda) we landed and went through customs...and thankfully our bags were there waiting for us since 2.15pm

what a day...I need to try to change our tickets coming back I think. word of advice...pay the extra for non-stop flight...or if you have to have a connecting flight...make sure it's with the same airline. We woke up to rain this morning...but we're here...

3.47 - The One that I'm done

that's right folks...I'm done working at CH...I'm off to Bermuda in a couple days...then I'll be back to start working at The Office. Too bad we don't have a "Dwight" there...

3.46 - The One with the Personal Assistant

I had the unique and fabulous opportunity to have my very own personal assistant..although it was circumstantial...it still was great. Dalton just so happened to be working on something else while answering my phone and text messages while I just lay in a pool chair floating around in the pool. He would go inside and work on his thing...then come out and relay a message to me and I would dictate a response and it would be sent. I can see why all these celebrities and CEO's have PA's...it's so much nicer for someone else to do your work when you just want to be lazy.

3.45 - The One with the rat

As my time here working at the group home ends, I took my favourite client out for dinner and a movie. It's great when you take them out into the community and they are treated with respect. But then there's the odd time where someone is insensitive and says something that just irks you. Normally it's a kid and they don't know better...but when it's an adult...that just irritates me.

We were out to see Ratatouille (which by the way was an excellent film) and R was having a good time looking around at his surroundings, taking it all in. Now to give you a little background on R...he tends to talk to himself quietly and constantly. He only says a few phrases and repeats them over and over. But he will get excited and cheer when he hears it. Anyways, R and I are in the theatre...mainly populated by children and their parents, enjoying the movie. R talks to himself for abit...repeats a few things over and over. He says a few things a little louder...but still is repeating what he's saying. A lady a few rows up turns and glares at us...obviously not being able to see who is making the noise. Maybe 10 minutes later she turns again and says, "Will you STOP that!" It took everything in me not to get up and call her out...also R was sitting closer to the aisle to I couldn't get out.

Soon after, her friend got up and went out to get a drink and must have went to complain to an usher who came back and told them that R came in in a wheelchair and was disabled. After the movie was finished I got R's wheelchair and I was getting him back into it, when the lady came up to me and apologized not knowing he was disabled. I just looked at her and said, "That's fine...it happens all the time...isn't it sad?"

I'm sure she was embarrassed...but what really get's me is that she applogized to me. It's no me who she should apologize to...it's R. Plus...wouldn't you clue in that if someone is talking thoughout a movie...and is repeating the same thing over and over...that maybe...just maybe that he/she can't help it? Perhaps I've been working at this job for so long that I just take it as second nature. Other than the lady rat...the evening was lots of fun. R had a great time at East Side Mario's and at the movies eating tons of popcorn. I'm going to miss working with the guys...

3.43 - The One with...who cares?

so did anyone really care about Live Earth this weekend? The intention was great...but I can't see anyone drastically changing their ways. I love how they had a bunch of rock stars who live a lavish lifestyle with their Hummers and private jets headlining this event. My favourite was this Australian band who wore black t-shirts that read "Say NO to Nuclear Energy". I wonder if they know that they probably live off of nuclear energy every single day...

and for some reason I can't add a title to my post today...weird

3.42 - The One with More then Meets the Eye

It was quite a weekend...I don't remember any other weekend in which so much stuff was just jammed packed into it. From seeing movies, to the Waterfront Festival, to the iPhone release and of course...'More than Meets the Eye"! Here are the highlights:

• iPhone Friday...with the release of the iPhone in the USA and all the coverage...it just makes me want one so much more. It looks so sleek and sexy...I will have one sooner or later.
• saw Live Free or Die Hard on Friday to kick off the long weekend. It was a "turn your brain off and watch" kinda movie. Justin (Hi I'm a Mac) Long was hilarious, Bruce Willis makes a triumphant return as Det. John MacClane...BUT...it wasn't really a Die Hard movie. It could have been the 24 movie with Bruce Willis instead of Kiefer Sutherland. The swearing wasn't there...but there was action packed. Still a very enjoyable movie
• The Waterfront Festival in town was pretty good this year. All the same kinds of things were happening...but the biggest highlight was Boss Hogs Ribs. I've never had better ribs before...so much better than any restaurant. I can't wait for them to come back for Rib Fest later in August.
• of course the Fireworks on Sunday were great as well. Don't you love how we spend so much money to shoot stuff in the air...and people flock and camp out for a 15 minute show. Regardless....fireworks are always fun to see.
• NHL free agency started on Sunday...and it looks like the Rangers and the Flyers have completely different teams. Too bad for the Sabres and the Islanders who lost all their good players.
• Vince (cry baby) Carter signed back with New Jersey after saying he wanted to test the free agent market. I guess he figured out that no one wants him for the price he was asking.
• Congrats to Jaimie and Tammy with their new baby boy Ethan Richard! Naomi and I went to visit them in the hospital on Saturday. Cute kid...and I've never seen Jaimie smile so much...such a proud father.
• Transformers the Movie. It was AMAZING! Beinto end off the weekend with a bang...Darrien and I went to an advanced screening ofg a big fan of the Transformers since I was a kid this was THE movie I've been looking forward to for a long time. I didn't want to overhype it before i went and I have a problem of stuff like that. I love movie spoilers and even if I know everything that is going to happen in the movie, I still enjoy it. This one...I saw all the trailers...didn't read too much on it...and I was so impressed. In typical Michael Bay fashion the movie was loaded with action and everything was just HUGE. It was funny, quirky and a little cheesy in some spots...but it didn't matter. Once I saw the robots transform...I was in my element. I need to see it again...
  

3.41 - The One with the tan - Part II

it's the summer time and for most people...they tan. For me...I just get darker and darker. I've never thought much of it until this weekend when we went to the brand new Asian Buffet in down. I was there with Trav, Dan, his co-worker Meghan and my brother. The restaurant is run by some Chinese people and when the waitress came to our table she asked my brother if he was Chinese. He replied yes and she was surprised that Chinese people actually live in our town. Then she turns to me and asked if I was Filipino. Yep...that's right...Filipino. I guess I'm a little too tanned for your average Chinese guy. Perhaps I should frost my tips to complete the look...

3.40 - The One with the 13th Ocean

ok...after seeing Ocean's 13...I really wanted to be a part of a heist. Didn't have to be elaborate...just any old heist. I was up on the mezzanine level at the theater and they had the large movie poster banners just strung up from there. I was thinking how easy it would be to steal it...ya know...go in really late...or early...when not many people are there...take a knife and cut the fishing wire and grab the banner...roll it up...take the stairs down and go out the side door. You'd need a couple other people in on it...but I was sure it could be done. THEN I saw the security camera's that were pointed directly at the banners. Oh well...it was fun just to think about it. Even if I could pull it off...what would I do with a 12 foot by 6 foot banner?

3.39 - The One with the canceled plans

well I had plans for tonight...now they are canceled. What am I going to do now?

3.38 - The One with the backstage

Ever been backstage at a concert? I'm not talking about one that you're playing in...or working at. I mean backstage as a fan...it's something else. On Saturday we had the privilege of being backstage and meeting Hillsong United right before they went on stage at the Molson Amphitheater. To meet the band is one thing...but to be able to look out at 14,000 fans eagerly awaiting the show to start was amazing. That's when my inner rock star wanted out...I've played in front of 500 people before...but no one always likes what you play and not everyone is into it at a church service. But imagine playing in front to even 100 people who are so into what you're playing...that would be something else. I guess it's all a dream for now...

here's my random thought for the day...why are there midgets wrestling in the WWE?

3.37 - The One "At World's End"

Last night we went to see the latest and perhaps last installment of Pirates of the Carribean. It was pretty good. I enjopyed the first one, was a little confused by the second but this one tied everything up quite nicely. Johnny Depp is brillant once again as Captian Jack Sparrow...and the cameo by the Rolling Stones Keith Richards as Jack's dad was fun. There were also some elements of the film that confused me...but for the sake of not spoiling it for those of you who haven't seen it...I won't ask. The film ended with an opporunity for another Pirates movie with Captian Jack. Rumours have Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightly not wanting to be in another Pirates film...so if you stay after the credits roll...there is a short clip that ties up their storyline.

I've seen 2 of the 6 '3rd' movies this summer...I missed Shrek...next up...Ocean's 13

3.35 - The One with May 2-4

Another May long weekend in the books...I'm still recovering...hence the reason I'm blogging on Wednesday...here's what went down...

• a great round of 18 at Timber Ridge Golf Club in Brighton. It's on of Canada's top 100 public courses. I shot a 91...not that bad
• on the way there I drove backwards on the 401
• the reason why was because the traffic came to a dead stop and we were 1.5 km past the last on ramp...so I followed a bunch of cars who backed up onto the on-ramp. Fun stuff
• worked the midnight shifts all weekend...
• went to Toronto FC vs DC United at BMO Field on Saturday afternoon. If you have a chance get to a game. It's something else...the fans are incredible
• led worship on Sunday morning...just before the first service, an older couple decided to make their point known that they didn't like us. Right after we did our sound check the lady said, "You're drummer NEEDS lessons." and her husband backed her up by exclaiming, "He's playing too loud!"
  
• funny thing is...Ryan was playing the drums and he's been teaching music for about 4 years now...and the reason is was loud...was because there was only about 20 people in the auditorium which seats about 300.
  
• isn't that great encouragement?
• we put on a brave face and went on to sing through the service...every time I looked at the couple they put their head down trying to hide from me...
• Sunday was also my mom's 50th birthday! Happy Birthday mom!!
• we went to Toronto for a Chinese Banquet for the Birthday...mmmmmm food

it was quite a weekend...more highs than lows...still not over what happened on Sunday morning but I'm sure it'll be addressed soon enough. This is the same couple that said one time that we don't play 'real' music because we use chord charts and not sheet music...

3.34 - The One with the suspensions

Dear NBA Commissioner David Stern,

you're an idiot...I now place you in the ranks of MLB's Bud Selig, and NHL's Gary Bettman for making and endorsing stupid decisions. How does a elbow to one of the NBA's elite players warrant a suspension to two other player who weren't even involved in the play? Did you even watch the replay? If not...let me describe it to you:

Game 4 - 18 seconds left, Suns were in control of the game and all they needed to do was advance the ball up the court and hold it to end the game. Spurs veteran Robert Horry stuck out his elbow and body checked Nash into the scorers table. Wait...this isn't hockey...it's BASKETBALL. The hit was unnecessary and unwarranted. If Horry wanted to foul Nash, all he needed to do was wrap his arms around him...not bodycheck him. Mind you he did get suspended for 2 games. But the thing that gets me...Amare Stoudemire and Borris Diaw of the Suns got off the bench, not even getting into the scuffle, are getting suspended for a game each. Stoudemire claims he was going to check into the game...but even if he was to get up and defend his teammate, shouldn't he be allowed to do that? Nash is 6'3" and Horry stands 6'10" and probably has at least 30-50 lbs on Nash. Not exactly a fair fight. ALSO...if Stoudemire and Diaw were suspended for such a minor occurance...why didn't Bruce Bowen of the Spurs get a suspension for kneeing Nash in the groin the game before? So the Suns get punished with two of their best players getting suspended for a game and and Spurs lose a utility player for two games. How is that fair?

Stoudemire called out the Spurs for playing dirty...and was criticized for it. I think he was right...my favourite quote of the evening came from Spurs coach Gregg Popovich, "It was just an end-of-game foul and Steve fell down, I didn't think it was such a big deal." Right...I guess he didn't see the play either.

I now turn my attention to last night's Wings and Ducks game 3.

Game 3 - second period - Wings are up 4-0. The Ducks are obviously frustrated in their play and emotions are boiling over. Ducks assistant captains Chris Pronger & Rob Niedermayer converge on Detroit's Tomas Holmstrom and hit him from behind. Niedermayer was given a 5 minute major and a game misconduct. Pronger got nothing. In my humble opinion, I think that the refs made the wrong call. Although Niedermayer shouldn't have come in for the hit when he saw Pronger closing in on Holmstrom...his hit was clean. Where as Pronger came in with his elbow up and hit Holmstrom in the head against the glass. What a cheap shot...Holmstrom laid on the ice for several minutes, motionless with blood streaming from his head. There's no doubt in my mind that Pronger was out the injure...not exactly the attitude that you want from one of your leaders on the team. I can't see the NHL not punishing and suspending him for a couple games for that hit even though Holmstrom returned in the third period with 13 stitches and assisted on the 5th Detroit goal.

I know it's the playoffs and emotions run high...but those hits are dirty and uncalled for...

3.32 - The One with the Heartbreak

After starting 2-8 the Toronto Raptors played a tremendous season to clinch their first division title...Sam Mitchell won Coach of the Year...I'm guessing that Brian Colangelo will win top exec of the year. But all good things must come to an end...Friday's game 6 loss was a heartbreaker. Losing by one and therefore being eliminated from the playoffs...thanks for a great season and I can't wait until next season.

Meanwhile...has anyone seen or found Dirk Nowitzki? He forgot to show up for the first round against the Warriors. It came down to the last game of the regular season for the Warriors to make the playoffs...but took them 6 games to eliminate the best team in the NBA this past season. What an upset...

Lastly...check out Spider-Man 3...I went on Friday and I think it completes the triology very well...there's been word on a 4th or a 5th...but I'd be satisfied with the 3 that they've made. I was pretty excited to see Venom on the big screen...Topher Grace did a great job. Spider-Man 3 marks start of the summer blockbuster season...HUGE movies coming out this year...Pirates 3, Oceans 13, Shrek 3, Transformers, Fantastic Four 2, Rush Hour 3...I maybe at the theatre every weekend...

3.31 - The One with the Canadian Politicians

I've never been a fan of politics...although some of my friends say that I should be more involved and blah blah blah. To me they are all the same...it doesn't matter who gets voted in...they are all in for their own agenda...or if they are the opposition...they just want to tear down the party who is in charge. Here's a prime example:

MYTISCHI, Russia (CP) - While politicians back home looked for headlines, Shane Doan sought to clear his name Tuesday.

"I'd rather you call me the worst hockey player in the world and say that I don't deserve to be on the team," the beleaguered Canadian captain said after practice at the IIHF World Hockey Championship. "Anything like that, that's fine. You can say whatever you want.

"But don't question my character. Don't question the basis of what I am."

Opposition leaders Stephane Dion, Jack Layton and Gilles Duceppe did just that in Ottawa on Monday, when they suggested in the House of Commons that he was unfit to lead the Canadian team at the tournament because of derogatory comments he is alleged to have made about French-Canadians in an NHL game some 17 months ago.
The allegations have never been proven. Doan denies making any slurs and he has been cleared by an NHL investigation.

Doan's answer to the first question about the political barbs back home lasted more than five minutes. While clearly hurt by the politicians' comments, he spoke clearly and calmly about things like character, honour and pride and even apologized afterwards for taking so long to answer.

"I don't understand how people can attack somebody when I was cleared by the NHL," said Doan. "Anybody that does any type of investigation into it would realize I never said it. "

"And yet, they can just throw it out in the House of Commons? Those are our eaders. Those are the people that we're supposed to look to."

that was an excerpt from a recent article about Team Canada's Captain Shane Doan. He's over in Russia playing hockey for his country in the annual IIHF Wolrd Championship and was honoured in being named Captain of the team. Because of something a ref thought he heard way back when, the opposition party leaders are attacking him and the Prime Minister due to what they think may have happened.

Here's my question...DON'T YOU HAVE SOMETHING BETTER TO DO? It's hockey...Doan was probably named captain because of his leadership skills on and off the ice. I haven't heard of any captain who wasn't a model for his team. This just frustrates me to no end...

in other news...the Raptors got lucky tonight...really lucky...lets get two more wins...

3.30 - The One with the thank you

a shout out to all who called, e-mailed, e-carded, facebooked, and texted me yesterday to wish me a Happy Birthday. It was a great day even though it was cold and wet on the golf course. A special shout out to those who endured golfing with me and let me win by a mere 20 strokes...mind you I shot 106 on a par 72. It was not a good day for me and my putter...although I did sink a 20 footer on the 18th. Again...thanks...

3.29 - The One with K.I.T.T.

I picked up my brother from school day, and as I was driving down Division street, a black car peeled out of a parking lot and ended up beside me on the left. I recognized that it was an early 80's Pontiac TransAm...and stated as a joke, "Hey look, it's K.I.T.T." (editors note: if you didn't recognize the name K.I.T.T. right away you won't understand the rest of the story. Please reach back into your inner 80's childhood or read up on it here) As we both came to a stop at the light, I was slightly ahead of the TransAm and my brother said, "check if it has the red sensor bar." So we both leaned over and took a look. To our amazement it was there! The driver must have seen us looking, because the sensor bar started to glow and the light paced back and forth. I looked up at the driver and he gave me a big smirk. I returned a thumbs up and drove away. Too bad the driver wasn't "The Hoff".

3.26 - The One with the fun day

what a beautiful day!! Couldn't ask for more...well I could...but then I'd be selfish. I washed the truck, went to the driving range and had a poutine from the Chip Truck for dinner. Ahh...you gotta love it...one of the best traditions about summer...trips to the Chip Truck...oh so good.

Please remember and pray for those who were effected at Virginia Tech. It was a horrible thing to happen and I am saddened by what the killer said in his video.

Well it really wasn't foggy...although the weather had a hard time making up it's mind. We were all in London (Ontario...not England) this weekend for Steve & Amberley's wedding and it was a riot...here are some highlights:

• Applebee's in Cambridge on the way up...I came up behind Lesley and put my hand on her shoulder, leaned around her looked at her...she then proceeded to look up and pucker up...stopped when she realized I wasn't Dalton...
• being #15 on the complaint list on a room where 2 yappy dogs left by their owners for over 4 hours. Stupid owners...
• Travis putting his coolers in the bar fridge in our hotel room and Steve breaking off the key in the lock. VanDan then proceeded to dismantle the fridge door with a knife, safety pin and tweezers. I think we should call him Macgyver from now on
• The security guard also named Dan who came to help VanDan with the fridge door...then being, bored hung out with us for the rest of the night...pretty tight security at the hotel...
• Steve throwing in "shutup!" in his vows while practicing them the night before
• Dim Sum in London...it was pretty good...comparable to Toronto. Jered just ate and ate and ate.
• Success!!
• The wedding ceremony
• The dance...good times...D-Train bringing it on the dance floor with the Hammer Dance
• dancing with my girl...

When the Nintendo Wii came out, I was pretty excited to get my hands on one...now that I have one, I'm always on the lookout for new accessories for it.

3.23 - The One with the Padawan

We've taken in a co-op student for the semester here at the office. He's a keen young lad who is eager to learn. I've been given the task to be his Jedi Master, thus making him my Padawan learner. One problem...he annoys the heck outta me.

He tends to sit behind me and stare...makes me kinda uncomfortable. Then he leans closer and breathes on me..that's just creepy. He likes to interrupt any conversation I have with anyone else in the office hoping to be included in the discussion when he has no part whatsoever. When I give him a task to do...he'll do it and then he expects me to watch him do it. He talks out loud when he works, so I'm not sure if he's talking to me...or to himself.

I'm not trying to be mean...I've been very patient...it's been about 2 months now and he's starting to push me over the edge. He's gotten to the point where I get the joy of teaching him basic HTML...wish me luck.

3.22 - The One with the playoff berth

Yesterday was April 1st...also know as April Fool's Day. Usually a day for jokes and pranks...but it came and went. Does anyone still care about it? I know when I was a kid the radio stations were all over it...would tell some elaborate story and never mention the date during the broadcast. Now...I don't recall the last time someone did something exciting during April Fool's day.

But the day was not wasted...D-Ray and I went to the Raptors game last night in which they blew out the Bobcats in a 107-94 win...clinching a berth in the playoffs. Not bad for a team who started 2-8 and for many "NBA Analysts" a team who they predicted that would not make the playoffs and end up in the bottom 5 teams in the league. Only a handful of games remain before the playoffs...can't wait.

3.21 - The One with Spring Fever

the sun was shining...the air was warm...brids were chirping...the grass...well...muddy in some spots...I had the afternoon off...guess what I did?

3.20 - The One with turtle power

Flashback to the early 90's when 4 mean green machines swept over most adolescent boys...and perhaps some girls. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles came to us in the form of a Saturday morning cartoon which also spawned action figures, games, lunch boxes...you name it...these turtles were on EVERYTHING. Then they made 3 live action movies...the first was pretty fun...maybe because I was younger and it was great to watch. The other 2...well they were pretty bad. After that...the turtles disappeared...but then started to make a comeback on Saturday mornings to the new generation of children...

Back to present day...with the magic of computer animation...the turtles are now back on the silver screen and debuted at the #1 at the box office knocking off the 300 Spartans which held that spot...I don't think I'm going to see it at the theater...but you know deep down I really want to...

3.19 - The One with some random thoughts

• paintball = welts and sore thighs...seriously...my welts don't hurt at all...but my thighs are very sore
• why is it that everyone thinks that they can be a graphic designer? With all the easy to make your website/logo programs out there...we designers are often neglected and considered too expensive. Why pay a designer to do something when you can do it yourself? Well...when you do it yourself...you can tell that a professional didn't do it...it looks bad...there is something called 'design sense'...I didn't go through 3 years of sleepless nights and hard work for some guy to give me this horrific logo to use for the new Chamber of Commerce website...look for it...its a horrible logo. I'm not bitter...I'm just mortified
• I picked Texas to win the NCAA Basketball title this year...boy was I wrong Kevin Durant did his job...the rest of his team didn't show up
• Facebook...are you on? Have you jumped the on bandwagon? Over the last few weeks my friends list doubled...seems like EVERYONE has joined...it's a great service...just remember that whatever you put on there is public for all to see...even if you put filters all over it...
• I'm sick of this weather...why can't it make up it's mind? From cold to warm to cold to warm. Back to cold and more cold...and then warm...when can spring arrive?
• Tiger Woods 07 for the Wii...still trying to get used to it...I'll figure it out soon enough...I hope...not sure if it'll mess up my real golf swing though...
• speaking of the Wii...story on Yahoo! says that sales for the Wii has matched sales for the XBox 360 & the PS3 combined in February. Also that by the end of March, Nintendo would have sold 6 million units. No wonder not many people can find one...glad I'm one of the lucky few that actually has one.

Went to see 300 last night...very good movie...very true to Frank Miller's comic book...not exactly historically accurate but it's stunning to watch and the action sequences are something else. If you enjoyed Gladiator, Troy, and Sin City...go see 300.

I wandered outside today...fully embracing the warm weather...when I could smelt something different in the air. It wasn't the cold crisp air I've grown accustomed to over the last couple months. This was different...yet strangely familiar...a smell usually reserved for the summer. My friends...it was the sweet smell of meat sizzling on a barbecue! A sign that the warm weather has arrived...

Pretty boring...if you want to watch someone's 24 hour day...stick to Jack Bauer...don't watch mine...

so yesterday I was at the annual CPI refresher course and something that the instructor said caused my buddy Otter to turn to me and say, "that's what she said." We thought that after awhile the other's in the course caught on to what we were laughing at...I guess that didn't happen because one of the participants said, "Ya know...it's 25 cents for a ride..."

3.12 - The One with the Wii'kend

I finally got my hands on a Nintendo Wii last Wednesday...I was pretty excited. Brought it home...set it all up...played a few games with Naomi...and we were hooked. Although the graphics aren't as revolutionary as the Playstation 3 or even the XBox 360...the way you control your character with the Wii'mote is incredible. VanDan was like a kid in a candy shop on Saturday night and couldn't stop smiling and giggling. I played and was around a Wii for most of the weekend...even though yesterday was Chinese New Year...my cousin had one which we all played...and at Soph's birthday party last night...Chris surprised her with a Wii.

Am I Wii'd out? Don't think so...I have Zelda to get into...plus the fact that everyone is still wanting to come over to play the Wii...I think that we're going to be occupied for a long time to come...at least until all the snow melts and I can hit the golf course...

3.10 - The One with the Eternal Embrace

ROME (Reuters) - Call it the eternal embrace.

Archaeologists in Italy have discovered a couple buried 5,000 to 6,000 years ago, hugging each other.

"It's an extraordinary case," said Elena Menotti, who led the team on their dig near the northern city of Mantova.

"There has not been a double burial found in the Neolithic period, much less two people hugging -- and they really are hugging."

Menotti said she believed the two, almost certainly a man and a woman although that needs to be confirmed, died young because their teeth were mostly intact and not worn down.

"I must say that when we discovered it, we all became very excited. I've been doing this job for 25 years. I've done digs at Pompeii, all the famous sites," she told Reuters.

"But I've never been so moved because this is the discovery of something special."

A laboratory will now try to determine the couple's age at the time of death and how long they had been buried.

Ahhh MBC...such great memories. This past weekend was no exception...first thing we noticed when we got there...the power was out. But it came back on during the first session...that was a relief but the acoustic worship set was pretty amazing. The strangest thing about the weekend was our roommates. We only had 6 of us go up this year...so us guys had to share a room with another church. I've never met a bunch of guys who said so little...I didn't mind that they didn't talk to us...but they didn't really say anything to each other. We were probably the worst roommates ever...the three of us took turns snoring all night long...suckers. All in all though...it was a fun, cold filled weekend...can't wait to go back in a week with the highschoolers.

Hi My name is T, and I'm a 24-oholic

it began with borrowing season 1 on dvd...after I had to watch season 2. I stopped watching for a few months, but then I went out and rented seasons 3 & 4 in succession. Watched both of them in a matter of weeks. I didn't watch any of season 5 until it came out on dvd not too long ago. I finished watching it a couple weeks ago in preparation for season 6. I found that they had leaked the first four episodes of season 6 and I proceeded to download them with no hesitation. I then watched them with VanDan last Friday, a full two days before they were to be aired to the general public. We felt 'privileged' in a way to have watched it before most people. Now I'm counting down the days until the next episode...

3.03 - The One with the iPhone

WOW

Yesterday at MacWorld Expo 2007, Steve Jobs unveiled the new iPod which turns out to be a phone, mP3 player, and BlackBerry all rolled into one. This thing is super thin and the resolution on the screen is incredible. It only has one button and the screen is touch sensitive.

Only one problem...it's exclusive to Cingular Wireless so the rest of us who live outside of the USA won't be able to use it until probably next year. Regardless...I still want one.

3.02 - The One with the roll

Congrats to Canada's World Junior Hockey team for winning their 3rd straight gold medal in as many years. Over the past 3 years they have gone undefeated and have dominated in every aspect of the tournament. The young players are really good...can't wait to see them in the NHL and what they can do for Canada in the 2010 Olympics.

On Saturday night, we ventured to the mansion for a little Monopoly...Millennium Edition. At one point in the game I was doing pretty good. I owed both of the utilities, a bunch of properties and had a bunch of cash. Then it all went downhill. I started trading, selling...and before i knew it I was getting dinged for landing on properties that I had but got rid of. Then came the dreaded row between Jail and Free Parking where Jon owned everything, set up houses on all the properties. Then around the corner Travis had setup shop so it was up to the dice roll to escape rent. Being my stupid luck, I rolled from one property to the next...paying a hefty price for my misfortunes. Funny thing...no one landed on my properties so I could gain back some cash...I have yet to win at a game of Monopoly
