4.25 - The One with the Customer
A few posts back I introduced you to notalwaysright.com. Here's a post from it that brings back memories...
Me: “Thank you for calling The UPS Store, this is Rick speaking, how may I help you?”...funny thing is...it happened ALL the time
Caller: “Yeah, hi. I need to find out how much it will be to send something to Iowa.”
Me: “I’d be happy to get you an estimate on shipping. Could I get the dimensions and weight of the box as well as the ZIP code of the destination?”
Caller: “Yeah, it’s probably about 10 pounds, and about this big.”
Me: “Well, I need a ZIP code for the destination, but you didn’t really give me the dimensions of the box.”
Caller: “The ZIP code is 51365, and it’s about this big.”
Me: “Ma’am, I can’t see your hands, so you’ll have to give me some sort of numeric dimension to work with.”
Caller: “Oh, let me get a ruler–” *click*
Me: *sigh*
Customer in the store who overheard the phone conversation: “Are you serious?!”

4.07 - The One with the Youth in Asia
I found this on Not Always Right, check it out:
(A woman came up to my register today and began putting her items up on the counter. All of a sudden, she stopped to listen to the pet store advertisements that we have playing all day in the store. The ad mentioned donations would prevent unnecessary euthanasia in animals at shelters.)
Woman: “What would they do with the euthanasia?”
Me: “The donations would help animals find homes so they wouldn’t use euthanasia unless it was absolutely necessary.”
Woman: “What do euthanasia have to do with it?”
Me: “Well, euthanasia means putting them to sleep.”
Woman: “They’re killed?”
Me: “Essentially.”
Woman: “I thought that was just a rumor.”
Me: “…what?”
Woman: “So do they eat them?”
Me: *so confused* “…the vets?”
Woman: “No. The kids.”
Me, perplexed: “…kids?”
Woman: “In Asia!”
(Then I realized that she meant youth in Asia. Not, euthanasia. And here I thought that mistake was only made on TV. Wow.)
