3.100 - The One with shortage of Wii's

WOW...Rock Band is amazing!! From opening the box, to setting up the drums, the Fender Stratocastor and the mic. A bunch of people came by last night to help me christen my copy of Rock Band. Time flew by...fun was had by all...here's my initial review...

band name: cāpo3

  1. the Strat...I like the size, the look, but it feels flimsy...getting the "Overdrive" to work seems like a chore...
  2. the higher frets for solos - I used them once of twice but I don't see much of an advantage of using them (if you can prove me wrong...I'm all ears)
  3. drumming is really fun...except I suck at it so far...(I'm a pianist, singer, and a guitarist by trade...could never drum correctly) The bass pedal is kinda cheap looking...you'd think that they could make better one that doesn't look like you can break it by just breathing on it.
  4. the singing is done well...if you know how to sing the sing you'll get a high score...even if you don't know the song...you can just keep the pitch and you'll do great. The mic itself is solid
  5. 4 players in the band was loads of fun...don't like how you can't switch instruments with your characters.
  6. the song selection was alright...playing the mystery sets or the challenge sets was getting a little repetitive. I think we played Say it Ain't So and In Bloom back to back about 5 times tonight. But...if we were a real band on tour...we'd be playing the same songs every show.
  7. custom characters - LOVE IT...lots to play with there
  8. haven't gone online yet...but soon...I hope it's pretty good
  9. solid game so far...lots of challenges and things to do
  10. better than Guitar Hero by far as a game. Still not to crazy about the Strat...

to me...it was worth the wait...can't wait to play it more...if you want to come by and play...just let me know...

Rock Band wasn't the only thing that's almost impossible to get this Christmas...reports have Nintendo losing over $1 Billion because they can't keep up the the demands for the Wii...$1 BILLION!!! I think I found the reason why...

3.99 - The One with Rock Band

I put in a pre-order for Rock Band for my XBox 360 in late November because I couldn't find Guitar Hero 3 anywhere. Little did I know that the distributors for this game would have so much trouble getting it out for Christmas. It was already delayed from the released date for Nov. 19th in the States. Anyways, I was keeping track of the stories that were floating around online and on message boards about this issue. Nothing really was concrete, there were a lot of rumors about the actual release date. FutureShop and Best Buy would be getting them before Christmas, but they weren't going to sell until after, EB Games was hoping to get it on the 20th, or the 24th, but only in limited supply.

So I went into EB Games where I pre-ordered and paid for the entire package hoping that would put me at the top of the list and I'd get my Rock Band when it came in. I called them yesterday, and they only got the stand alone game...not the Special Edition that came with the guitars, drums, and a mic. They told me to call the next day to find out if they would get any in...they assured me that they would be able to fulfill their pre-order list. I went to Wal Mart and they also only got the stand alone game and didn't think that they would even get the Special Edition in. So today I called EB Games and they told me that they were getting 14 units in and they checked if I was in the top 14. I was not...I was 9th from the bottom. They said that I would be getting mine after Christmas. I was not impressed.

On a hunch I called up Wal Mart and asked if they had the Special Edition...they told me they just got them in and they had 3 for the XBox 360 and 3 for the PS3. I got off my butt and rushed to Wal Mart. As I approached the electronics department I saw a guy carrying out an XBox 360 edtion of Rock Band...I prayed that there would be one left for me. Luckily there were 2 more left so I promptly paid for it. Now it's in the back of my SUV waiting for me to open the beast of a box that it comes in and rock out! I'm still kinda ticked at the distributors of the game...but now I'll have 2 copies of the Special Edition next week...I'm looking to sell one...so if you know someone that wants one for the XBox 360...let me know.

3.98 - The One with the snow bank

It snowed about 25cm over the weekend...yesterday I spent most of the day shoveling. Not that much fun...at least the snow wasn't heavy...but it just didn't stop coming down. Just when you thought it was letting up and going to stop...OH...more snow! I don't mind the snow...I just hate it when the snow plows in my town basically fortify your driveway when it goes by your house. I spent about a half hour this morning shoveling a 2 foot high, 5 foot deep and about 20 foot wide barrier that was on my driveway from the lovely snow plow. It didn't help that my neighbour has this big sign on his lawn that reads "Let it Snow!" Oh it snowed alright buddy...do you want mine?

Don't get me wrong...I'm grateful that we have plows...but when I was living in Saskatoon...where it snows a lot more and for more days...we never had this problem. The plows would never block your driveway. On my way to work I saw a bunch of old people out shoveling the ends of their driveways. It's just not right.

On a brighter note...the trailer for the The Dark Knight came out this weekend...check it out

3.97 - The One with "Something has found Us"

Not sure if you've heard of "Cloverfield"...but it's the new J.J. Abrams movie coming out in January. The teaser trailer came out with Transformers and didn't even say what movie it was...so there's been a lot of speculation and hype building around it. Check out this 5 minute preview...it's the latest thing to come out...no one sure what this movie is about yet...

3.96 - The One with the 'Ford'ified KITT

It's official...KITT is now a Shelby Mustang for the made for TV movie next year. It's a far cry from the Trans Am way back in the day. I think it looks pretty cool...but I'll miss the original Trans Am. Click here to see more pics

3.95 - The One with the DELAY

I've been looking for Guitar Hero III for my XBox 360 for the last few weeks...stupid me didn't pre-order it...and I've had no luck. So I gave up and pre-ordered Rock Band instead. Instead of just having the guitar to play in the game...you have a drum kit and a microphone to sing along. You can also plug in another guitar to play the bass part. I was pretty excited for it. Rock Band was released in the US in November and it is supposed to be released in Canada on December 20th. Now I read on Joystiq that it has been pushed back another week to the 28th. So much for my plans to play it over Christmas...I guess it'll be fun for New Years. Many people believe that it's because the packaging, instructions, etc. have to be in French...I would think that the game publishers would have figured that all out already...I'm not impressed...

3.93 - The One with the snow

Ahh snow...how I don't miss you. Although I do like it when you come for Christmas. Well it looks like the snow is going to stay for awhile...and it doesn't help when it decides to rain and freeze making my street an ice rink. At least the snow has put me in the Christmas mood...the tree went up on Saturday and last night I started to wrap some presents. Now if the rain would stop...
