2.43 - The One with the real chinese food

When I talk about real Chinese food, the words chicken balls, egg rolls and chop suey don't make the cut. That's North American fabrication of chinese food. Last night was my grandparents 50th wedding anniversary banquet...and when Chinese people get together to celebrate...its all about the food. This is what a typical banquet looks like:

Let's start off with a Roasted Suckling Pig Plate

moving onto Deep Fried Stuffed Crab Claws

Stir Fried Prawn Ball & Scallops with Vegetable

Braised Shark's Fin Soup with Conpoy and Crab meat soup (this is one of my favourites, if you were to get a single serving: it's approx. $10 per bowl)

Whole Abalone in Oyster Sauce (Abalone is a shellfish..very expensive)

Roasted Chicken

Stir Fried Lobster in Supreme Soup

Steamed Whole Fish

Fried Rice with Conpoy & Egg White / Braised E-Fu Noodle

Last but not least: Dessert - Sweet Red Bean Cream with Lotus Seed and Fancy Cakes (Coconut on Jello and Almond Cookies...not so fancy if you ask me...I think we got the short end of the stick with the dessert.)

so there you have it...that's just a small sample of what real Chinese banquet food looks like. Oh ya...it was amazing...sooooo good. How did it all cost you wonder? I'm not sure...I didn't pay for it...but let's just say that if you ever get invited to a Chinese banquet...say yes.

I wish I were Chinese. But no, I'm stuck with Aussie parents...stupid 'shrimp on the barbie" (btw, I've NEVER had that...just a lot of lamb...and not even on the bbq...I got ripped off.)

Looks like it was amazing!
